Categories: Cookies | Dessert

Ingredients:

  • 2/3 cup butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour

Preparation:

  • In a large mixing bowl beat butter with an electric mixer on medium to high speed for 30 seconds.
  • Add granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  • Beat until combined, scraping sides of bowl occasionally.
  • Beat in egg, milk, and vanilla until combined.
  • Beat in as much of the flour as you can with mixer.
  • Stir in any remaining flour.
  • Divide dough in half.
  • If necessary, cover and chill dough 30 minutes or until easy to handle.
  • Preheat oven to 375 F.
  • On a lightly floured surface, roll half the dough at a time until 1/8 inch thick.
  • Use cookie cutters to cut dough into desired shapes.
  • Place on an ungreased cookie sheet.
  • Bake for 7-8 minutes or until edges are firm and bottoms are very lightly browned.
  • Transfer to a wire rack and let cool.
  • Decorate as desired.

Notes:

I like this dough because it was much easier to handle and Samantha could pretty much roll it out herself. When I made the dough it seemed really sticky at first but once I'd chilled it in the fridge it was very nice to handle. I like to make my cookies a bit thicker so that they are less breakable when the kids decorate them.
