Savoury Cranberry And Nut Bread

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/4 cups water
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil, margarine or butter
  • 3/4 tsp salt
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3 tbsp dried onion flakes
  • 1 tsp each dried rubbed sage leaves and savory leaves
  • 1/8 tsp pepper
  • 1 1/4 tsp bread-machine yeast
  • 2/3 cup dried cranberries
  • 2/3 cup chopped pecans or walnuts

Preparation:

  • Add all ingredients except cranberries and nuts to machine according to manufacturer's directions.
  • Select basic white bread cycle.
  • Add fruit and nuts at ingredient signal (or 20 to 30 minutes into cycle).

Notes:

  • We substituted a little bit less thyme for the savory.

  • Variations:
    • Substitute poultry seasoning for the sage and savory.
    • Substitute 1/2 to 3/4 tsp each ground sage and ground savory for the rubbed sage leaves and savory leaves.
    • Substitute whole-wheat flour for half of the white flour to get a more compact and nutritious loaf.
