Submarine Buns

Categories: Bread Machine

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup water
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 2 tsp. sugar
  • 3 1/3 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp. bread machine yeast
    Topping:
  • 1 - 2 tbsp. melted butter
  • 1 - 2 tbsp. sesame seeds

Preparation:

  • measure ingredients into baking pan in the order recommended by the manufacturer.
  • insert pan into the oven chamber
  • select dough cycle.
  • remove dough to a lightly floured surface; cover with a large bowl and let rest for 10 to 15 minutes
  • divide the dough into 6 equal portions.
  • form into slightly flattened 12-inch (30cm) long buns
  • place on a baking sheet sprinkled with cornmeal
  • cover and let rise in a warm, draft-free place for 30 to 45 minutes, until doubled in volume.
  • brush with 1 to 2 tbsp. melted butter
  • sprinkle with 1 to 2 tbsp. sesame seeds. (seeds will toast as the buns bake)
  • bake in oven preheated to 350 for 15 minutes, or until buns sound hollow when tapped on the bottom.

Notes:

  • our bread machine broke halfway through making the dough, so it didn't turn out quite right.
  • thankfully the buns were still edible.
