Recipe from "Cape Breton Pictorial Cookbook" a gift from my aunt Babara

Ingredients:

  • 3 cups rolled oats
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 1/2 cups shortening
  • 6 tbsp. cold water

Preparation:

  • stir rolled oats, flour, sugar, salt and soda in a bowl.
  • work in shortening with fingertips until crumbly.
  • sprinkle with water, form in a ball with your hands.
  • roll out fairly thin on a floured surface.
  • cut in 2 1/2 inch squares or circles.
  • arrange on lightly greased cookie sheet.
  • bake 375of oven approximately 10 - 15 minutes until lightly browned
