pizza schnecke
One of Rubby's favourite Austrian pastries is "Schnecke" which is a type of cinnamon roll named after it's resemblence to a snail. So for Rubby's birthday this year he got a savoury version of this treat - a pizza Schnecke! These would make great little appetizers.
Ingredients:
- 1 pack of puff pastry (2 sheets), thawed
- 1 small onion, diced
- 100 g salami
- 100 g ham, diced
- 10 slices pepperoni, diced
- 150 g cheese, grated (mozzarella or cheddar work fine)
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- salsa (about 1/4 cup - enough to bind the rest of the filling in a paste)
- basil, oregano, salt and pepper (to taste)
Preparation:
- Preheat oven to 170C (340F).
- In a large bowl combine onion, salami, ham, pepperoni, cheese, and garlic.
- Add enough salsa to make a creamy mass.
- Season to taste.
- Unroll sheets of puff pastry and spread the filling on both sheets.
- Roll each sheet and cut each roll into slices 1 to 2 cm thick.
- Bake 20 minutes.
