savory cranberry and nut bread
This bread is especially tasty for turkey sandwiches. It can also make an excellent stuffing for pork or poultry.
Ingredients:
- 1 1/4 cups water
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil, margarine or butter
- 3/4 tsp salt
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 3 tbsp dried onion flakes
- 1 tsp each dried rubbed sage leaves and savory leaves
- 1/8 tsp pepper
- 1 1/4 tsp bread-machine yeast
- 2/3 cup dried cranberries
- 2/3 cup chopped pecans or walnuts
Preparation:
- Add all ingredients except cranberries and nuts to machine according to manufacturer's directions.
- Select basic white bread cycle.
- Add fruit and nuts at ingredient signal (or 20 to 30 minutes into cycle).
Note:
- We substituted a little bit less thyme for the savory.
- Variations:
- Substitute poultry seasoning for the sage and savory.
- Substitute 1/2 to 3/4 tsp each ground sage and ground savory for the rubbed sage leaves and savory leaves.
- Substitute whole-wheat flour for half of the white flour to get a more compact and nutritious loaf.
