This trail was once used by french settlers on their way to the area of what is now the town of masham. Off Brian's parking lot, this is a favourite trail of ours for finding and identifying spring wildflowers.
the first flowers we spotted on the trail... bloodroot.
a very tiny bird's nest in a bush
trout lily (aka.
adder's tongue or dogtooth violet)
red trillum
spring beauties
garlic mustard (they actually taste like garlic)
white trilliums
i am not sure why the beech tree is smiling... it has a really bad hairdo
moose wood
a glimpse of meech lake
honeysuckle
rose twisted stalk (a.k.a. rosybells)
some artsy nature shots
dutchman's britches
looking for some good eats...
by the streams you can find some tasty water cress but the mushrooms in the trees aren't out yet.
blue cohosh
spring is trying to poke out from underneath the leaves
garlic leek (protected in gatineau park)
very red mushrooms
canada violet
red fern
unknowns (to us)
left: wild lily-of-the-valley (a.k.a. Canada Mayflower)
right:
sarsaparilla
lily of the valley
painted trillium
wooley mullen
smooth yellow violet
if a tree falls in the forest... does that mean it is the end of the photos?
