Tyrolean Music and Dancing

In Westendorf they have a lot of music and dance entertainment for the tourists, including in the evenings. Every Friday they have the town band playing Austrian music at the music pavilion and it's free to go see it. Because of bad weather the entertainment had been moved indoors.

We also checked out the "Tiroler Abend" (Tyrolean Evening) where we saw the Hinterlechner Boys singing and playing music, two women yodelers, and the Westendorfer Schuhplattler group. Schuhplattln is a traditional type of dancing that involves a lot of hopping and slapping around… you really have to see it to believe it! It was a lot of fun and Samantha.

the westendorf "blasmusik".
The girls at the sides went around selling postcards & shots of schnapps...
you can guess which one sold better ;-)

a traditional song about the scythe. Given that austrian farms are on the mountains where terrain is too steep for tractors, the scythe is still commonly used to cut the grass

the "schuplattler" dance

it's a great show where the performers get to have their snack on stage.

the "schneewaltzer" played on cowbells

a skit about going to the barber

more ass-slapping as the tourist men try to watch & learn...
