We took a quick jaunt to Cape Smokey to try and find a geocache while Samantha was napping but we didn't have any luck so we decided to head to Jigging Cove Lake for some hiking instead.
The trail is a 2.4 km loop around Jigging Cove Lake.
The brochure says it should take 40-50 minutes to hike but that probably doesn't take into account the frequent blueberry snacking stops.
Rubby taking a picture
Aaack! Signs of fall already?!
Hey look! The Cape Breton ant colony!
Just as Rubby noted that we'd seen lots of blueberries and raspberries but no blackberries, we found some.
The view from the 'end' of the lake.
Oh poo! Who's bright idea was this anyway?!
This trail is a little rougher and less used... but very pretty.
The yellow on the fir needles makes for a nice pattern.
Ummm... so this is the coastal trail.
If we thought the last trail was rough... this one is a little... rocky.
Sammy enjoys watching the waves.
This must be the part of the trail that is described as "difficult sections over cobbles".
Lots of interesting things to find among the rocks.
Flecks of mica in the rock.
Sammy and Rubby check out more wave action.
We can't imagine hiking several kilometers of this terrain (at least not without some sort of injury on the part of Rubby) so we decided to head back the way we came.
Rubby takes a quick moment to discover what if feels like to be a lobster.
Rubby enjoys a cinnamon bun and Samantha has a sip of water.
