This spring the sugar bush was open but the spring was not the greatest for maple sugar production. The buckets had barely any sap in them and so we didn't get to see the boiling or the pulling of taffy in action. However, the walk in the woods was still beautiful and we still managed to get some tasty treats.
The sugar bush is seasonally operated by the Parks of the St. Lawrence but the trails are beautiful for walking or cross country skiing year round.
The horses are ready... looks like we'll get the first ride of the morning.
Interpretive signs tell a bit about the history of maple sugar production.
Checking out the buckets. Not much in them today!
What's for lunch?
Uncle Rubby, where did all the sap go?
Sam is trying to figure out what the deal with the buckets is.
Opa finds himself a little hut.
The sugar shack... unfortunately there's no smoke coming from the chimney today.
Well it's a beautiful day so let's check out the trails.
Sammy seems to be having fun.
And so does Joe!
Sammy takes this opportunity to remind us that Blue Jays are Grandma's favourite bird.
Another little shack...
With the cross-country skiing done for the season, there's no reason to have a fire here.
Looks like last year's wet season took its toll on these woods.
Still barely a drop in the bucket.
Let's try this one.
Or this one?
No this one!
Mmmmmm, a little treat for the ride.
This is the most sap we saw in a bucket all day.
After our hike, we have to still stop at the snack shack for a little pancake with maple syrup treat.
Bye sugar shack!
