Merrickville and Down to Earth Gardens

August 5, 2007

Khalil's mom was visiting from Lebanon and so the Hayeks invited us and Oma and Opa to go to Merrickville for a lunch and then to go visit "Down To Earth Gardens" in the afternoon for their open house.

In Merrickville we had lunch at our favourite place - The Yellow Canoe Cafe. Afterwards some of the adults decided to go for ice cream but I think it was mostly the kids who benefitted from that decision. We toured the locks and several shops before moving on.

At Down To Earth Gardens the kids enjoyed all the animals, particularly the goats and the llamas. There were also some demonstrations like rope making by the owner Pierre whom we had met previously when we got a First To Find prize (a spruce tree!) for the geocache that's on their property. We revisited the cache with the Hayeks and Helena was proud to be the first to find it, all by herself no less.

It was a fairly busy and long day and afterwards Rubby and I decided not to go on such long excursions any more until Christopher would be born. Well we didn't have to wait long for that one! ;-)
