Geocaching in Gatineau Park

October 1, 2007

Since we've moved to the southern reaches of Ottawa, we rarely make excursions to Gatineau Park anymore but this year we decided we had to make at least one fall trip there to see the leaves and get a bit of geocaching done in the area. It seemed we were almost a bit early to get the really bright colours but nevertheless we had some beautiful scenery and hiking which Sam did all by herself.

Deal or no deal...
what was the deal with how long it took Rubby to find a geocache this size?!

Club moss

It seemed like hours to go the 600 m to the Shilly Shally Shack!

The Shilly Shally Shack turned into our snack shack.

There are many red leaves already but still lots of green too.

Sammy finds another treasure and a little hide out as well.

Samantha takes a moment to be a leaf among many leaves.

Picnic time! All that hiking made us hungry...

... and tired too!

Nowadays when Sammy goes bushwhacking with poppa, she walks instead of being carried... even uphill!

Where in these rocks could the treasure be hiding?

Samantha doesn't hesitate to get down low to look...

... and she hauls out the cache!

Look poppa, someone left a sippy cup! (not what she ended up trading)

And at yet another cache, Sam finds a kitty car.

Ok, maybe it's safer if poppa carries Sammy on the steep downhill parts.

Hmmm, let's increase the terrain rating and try rock climbing!

Someone starts to lag a little behind.

Ok, by the look on Sam's face, it's time to head home for a nap!
