Not the best sleep... the campsite was right next to the highway and at times it sounded like the trucks were heading right for the tent. In the morning we were pleasantly surprised that the rain held off... but we made the mistake of not waking the kids and by the time they were up, the rain had started. So the wet tent was packed in the car and off we went to St. John where Samantha was treated to McDonald's pancakes and playland. Not really yummy for the rest of us, but Sam had the playland to herself and absolutely loved it.
Then off for a day of geocaching. A quick stop at the Reversing falls... wow, look, the water is going the other way. Then off for a graveyard tour to find a father of confederation, followed by our first cave cache along with a few traditionals in a nearby park.
Our first fossil experience came courtesy of a new earthcache... the norton fossil forest. This was a site that was recently discovered when they blasted the rocks to widen the TransCanada highway by mile maker 171 near Norton, NB. Next we headed off to the Amazing Caverns of Kitt's Cave along route 111. This is one of those places that all the locals know about but we would never have discovered without geocaching. A little path barely visible led us off the side of the road past a privately owned home, over a patch of mowed grass and down a short but steep incline to a little creek. We hopped across the creek to where the couch (!) was and looked back. And there was the cave entrance! Inside the cave it was cool and there were no bugs... yay! We stayed long enough for rubby and Samantha to do a bit of spelunking and to have our snacks.
A quick final stop was made to visit an earthcache featuring a sink hole (not very exciting after that cave!) and then we headed to Fundy National Park to set up camp.
