Day 11 - July 15: Five Islands, Springhill, Joggins, & Parrsboro

Today was fossil and geology day. We started off in the morning with a trip to Springhill to visit an earth cache about geothermal heating from a mine and learned that Springhill is also home to 2 of the largest mining disasters in Canada. Incidentally Springhill is also the home of Anne Murray but although she is old, she's not a fossil so we decided to skip her museum. *grin*

Then it was off to Joggins, site of one of the most significant fossil sites in the world. It is even mentioned in Charles Darwin's "Origin of Species"! Just a few days prior to our visit, Joggins received Unesco's World Heritage Designation. And we'd never even heard of this place before we found this earthcache listing.

In Parrsboro we had a short laundry and ice cream break. Then to finish off our dinosaur adventures we did the "Prosauropods A Plenty" earthcache in Parrsboro, which involved a visit to the Parrsboro Rock Shop, home of the world famour fossil collector Eldon George, the Fundy Geological Museum and Wasson Bluff.

Back at camp we had dinner and put the kids to bed, Rubby went along one of the closed trails to discover the old wife (a rock formation) and a nearby cache.
