One of our favourite things to do on a beautiful winter day is to go feed the chickadees at Stony Swamp. Lots of people do this and so the chickadees at Stony Swamp have become very tame. In fact, as people pile out of their cars, the chickadees quickly arrive at the parking lot looking for handout. They'll land in your hand even without bird seed, but you don't get too many repeat visits that way. So we came prepared with our bag of seeds.
Hmmmm, why does poppa have birds landing on his head?
A chickadee lands on Sammy's head to eat some seeds.
Watch out poppa, this bird party could get out of hand.
Just hanging out with the chickadees.
A beautiful walk through the woods.
Hey look, someone else made a Christmas tree with decorations for the birds!
All bundled up.
A chickadee up close.
Eating out of our hands.
The sun is warm but the air is frosty.
Looking for chickadees, nuthatches and woodpeckers along the boardwalk.
The beaver of Stony Swamp is clearly concerned about the safety of passersby and has created a barricade to stop people from venturing out on the ice. Or maybe he's just anti-social and doesn't want visitors.
Chickadee-dee-dee-dee-dee!
