Wednesday, June 24 - Westendorfer Rundweg

Rain, rain, go away, please don't come back. sigh.

We had no plans to go anywhere and since it was raining (again!) Uri had invited us for lunch. So while Sam spent the morning with Oma, we decided to go and drop our German geocoin in the Westendorfer Rundweg cache for a second attempt to make it back to Canada.

For lunch we had roast beef with potatos and veggies... it was sooo good after a cold and wet morning walk.

In the afternoon we had coffee and cake while Christopher napped and then we went down into town where Oma bought Sammy a necklace and we stopped at the bakery for some buns and a Schnecke pastry (his second one today!) Then we went back to the hotel for supper and an early bedtime for the kids. Rubby amused himself watching strangely dubbed movies and really bad MTV reality shows (as I'm writing this there are people being electrocuted while trying to do calligraphy and attempting to stop fans with their noses without making any sound. Next up, 60 seconds of thigh pains including hot wax and leeches.) Please let the sun come out soon!

The Westendorfer Rundweg multi-cache starts at the house where you can book sleigh rides (or as the sign says... "sledge" rides!)

Ducks at the old pond.

One of the waypoints... a cute little house with a beautiful wood pile.

The cache takes us through the Auner woods.

Christopher is cold and wet, but having a blast!

A Hexenhaus (witch's house).

We must have interrupted something cause these guys looked a little sheepish.

A double waterfall. These channels help direct the water coming off the mountain so the fields don't get flooded.

Another waypoint along the cache.

View of Westendorf from the final cache location.

The cherries are starting to ripen.

While we were out for a walk, Samantha had fun playing at Uri's with the toys that Annemarie had brought down for the kids.

A hot serving of roasted beef from Uri... mmmmmm!

Sam enjoyed playing with this very anatomically correct doll but insisted it was a girl baby.

Mmmmm, popsicles are so much better in Austria!

Apricot cake and coffee for the grown-ups.

Sam's photo: self portrait while sitting on Oma's lap.

Sam's photo: leftover apricot cake on the counter

Sam's photo: don't forget my toes!

Samantha shows off the artwork...
a picture of the lift by Samantha and Sammy baking bread at Hexenwasser.

The clouds never lifted all day.

Christopher checks out some of the kid park brochures before bedtime.

our tracks for the day (8.6km)
