Got an invite from Dadndaughter to head out for a day trip to algonquin park to do a new earthcahce and also grab a couple of canoe caches along the barron cayon river. after making sure that the kids would be looked after, I was more than happy to accept the offer.
a quick stop to pick up some supplies.
almost there.
we did the earthcache first , which required hiking a short trail on the top of the cliffs
I think children should always be kept under control! ;)
great view!
careful not to get too close....
... or you might fall down!
earthcahe completed!
can you spot dadndaughter?
one last look
now it's time to head down and go canoeing.
this looks like the right place... a portage sign and a guy heading down with a canoe!
very strudy canoe.... but not the lightest.
looks like we woke up a fox
not sure who is more intrigued.
not far now.
ok, according to the GPS, the water should be around here somewhere!
the water looks inviting.
and we're off!
lots of interesting cliffs
our first of several portages.
only 440 meters... not too bad.
we get to see why we needed to portage.
440m feels a lot longer when carrying a canoe!
cheese!
coming up to the first geocache location.
the hint says that it's near a rock?!
it should be right nere!
got it!
success!
cool rock formations.
chantrelles!
photos just don't do the canyon justice.
a waterfall!
ribbit!
daryl + almonds = funny photo!
break time over... back out on the water.
cool cliffs.
more cool cliffs.
one of the campsites we saw along the way.
someone had a seafood party here!
patch of lily pads
blue heron
we got too close... it takes off
goose.
old logs poke out from time to time.... still better than potholes!
time for another portage.
but first another break to enjoy our environment.
it was a great day to go canoeing!
(can there really be a bad canoe day?)
