my dad and i wanted to go out at least once this season for a day of geocaching via canoe. we decided to do the caches on the various islands in the ottawa river. the weather was just right, and we got to see the hot air balloons take off from the festival. We put the canoe in on the quebec side and then canoed about 20km down river to petrie island in orleans.
this is our tracks using a maping program for geocaching
and this is a simplified view of our tracks via google earth.
an early start to the day
all ready to launch
a little rest stop on the island
the moon is still out
watching the hot air balloons take off
everything is very peacul at this time of day
"steam" coming off the water.
dad seems to be enjoying himself.
balloons!
found a cache!
looks like there were head hunters around here.
now that we found the caches on this island... back to the canoe
and off to our next island
the water was so warm, that we would walk in it instead of on shore.
water plane.
where to next?
a good hiding tree for a geocache.
the view down river to our next island.
off we go again.
another head with the cache?!
every island was picturesque.
this one had lots of shore erosion due to the waves from all the motor boats that go by
trying to find a cache... I bushwhacked (or marsh-whacked) all the way from the canoe.
