Tired from a long day, we decided to head back to Puerto Madryn for supper. We had hoped to go to a restaurant but since these open so late, we thought we could do take-out pizza instead. But even the pizza places open fairly late! We found a place that was just opening and after a lengthy game of charades and broken Spanish, we managed to convey our wishes to the proprietor of the pizza place who although very friendly, did not understand the concept that a foreigner might better understand if she slowed down her answers! Finally we figured out that the chef had not yet arrived but would be there shortly and we could put in our order which would be completed in about 45 minutes time (actually, by the time we understood all that, the wait time had reduced to half an hour!) We hastily scanned the menu and picked a hawaiian and a red pepper/ham pizza and emphasized numerous times that we wanted them "sin aceitunas"... apparently a pizza without olives is not a menu choice in Argentina!
While we were waiting we took a little walk around the block and stopped at a playground by the waterfront which the kids really enjoyed. Then we picked up our pizzas which wayed a ton... and had olives. We took the pizzas back to our apartment and after dinner the kids went to bed and we packed to head for the Andes the next day. We were all sad to be leaving Puerto Madryn and one day we'll have to come back to go on a whale watching tour (and we'll definitely have to see these whales in the Bay of Fundy once!)
Driving in Puerto Madryn... one of the few times they had a traffic light!
A road side shrine.
Lots of these red coloured shrines around.
Waiting for the pizzaria to open.
The houses and gardens around here are beautifully kept.
Even the garbage baskets have lids in this part of town!
These environmentally friendly driveways reminded us of Austria.
Stopping to smell the roses.
We thought it was funny that the local teens hang out on the streets with their fancy cars... and drink mate!
Along the water front with a view towards the harbour.
Interesting housing... big windows, all with the shades pulled down.
Swinging at the park.
Sam is excited about the teeter-totter.
Christopher checking out the wooden slide... don't get a splinter on your bum!
Samantha makes a personal record on the monkey bars... amazing that she still has energy!
Even the graffiti around here seems fancier!
Our pizzas are ready! Wait a minute... someone put the toppings on backwards with the cheese underneath!
PIZZA!!!! A hawaian pizza with cherries and a ham/egg/red pepper pizza. They weighed a TON!
