As the day passed and we got closer to the Andes, it got cooler and cloudier. The vegetation started to change and we started seeing little salt marshes along the road with... pink flamingos! (or "pingos!" as christopher called them). And finally we started seeing the Andes themselves... with snow! Brrrrr!
With the increased cloud cover, the colours in the mountains are much more subtle.
Rubby checking out one of the salt fields.
It looks like snow!
And as we look out in the distance we see real snow on top of the Andes mountains!
Some ducks and a "pingo!"
Andean flamingo ("parina grande" - identifiable by its yellow legs)
Not quite the landscape we had expected for a sighting of flamingos!
Flamingo in flight.
Christopher liked the "pingos".
The last stretch of foothills before we reach the Andes.
Christopher in good spirits after his nap.
Birds on a wire.
Yikes, a whole flock of headless pingos!
A duck family.
A lot of ducks and birds around these little lakes.
A view of the lakes... there's a lot more grass around these wetter areas.
A herd of guanacos.
