At Puerto Chucao we joined lots of other people including a German tour on the boat operated by Brazo Sur. Along the way a guide explained a bit about the area, the park, and the rainforests (all in Spanish of course!).
As we crossed Lago Menéndez we also passed by the Torrecillas glacier which apparently is
receding fast and may last only another 70 years). When we got there the boat slowed down so we could get out on deck and take lots of pictures.
Before going on shore we had a quick snack since we'd be going to a very sensitive area in the park and were not permitted to take and food or drinks off the boat.
The captians are on the dock and several other people have joined us to wait for the boat ride.
Christopher is excited that we get to go on a boat today.
Last minute inspections?
The kids amuse themselves by playing ploumps and 'fishing' while we wait.
Lots of people waiting to get on the boat. Most of them are Spanish but there are also a bunch of Germans.
The kids are having fun playing peekaboo with one another.
A guided tour on Lago Menéndez... in Spanish of course!
Different lakeside vegetation from what we're used to back home.
Getting closer to the glacier.
Christopher is enjoying the boat ride.
A great view of the Torrecillas glacier.
The glacier is receding fast and may last only another 70 years..
Christopher and Rubby come out on deck also... it's a bit windy!
We're headed straight ahead... where all the rain is! (makes sense for a Valdivian Rainforest!)
Samantha on deck with the glacier in the background.
A great photo with Rubby and Christopher with the glacier as well as the rainforest that we're headed to in the distance.
A final look back at the glacier.
On a boat ride in the Andes... :)
Lots of snow on these mountains!
The melting snow run-off creates lots of streams.
Waterfalls created by run-off.
