We had lots of fun playing in the Valle Encantada surrounded by all those amazing rock formations but we were still itching to see some up close. We kept looking out for caves too since we knew there were guided tours that incorporated cave tours. I'm guessing the real caves were much further away from the road but we did find a little roadside "cave" that we stopped at for Rubby to get a photo op. As we turned north at Confluencia the road was also much closer to the rocky cliffs. And as we followed the Rio Traful, we came across a herd of cows crossing the river. The best part was that so far, the day saw nothing but blue skies... this place must truly be enchanted! ;-)
As we turn north at Confluencia, we are 35 km away from Villa Traful.
A sign from the Nahuel Huapi National Park.
Driving along the Rio Traful.
Beautiful scenery.
More interesting rock formations.
Lots of great views.
Rubby stops and hops the large "ditch" to take a closer look at the rocks.
Then he's off to find a cave.
Finally Rubby found himself a cave in the enchanted valley. Who needs a guided tour?!
We should have brought our stuff and camped here for the night!
Along this road the rock formations are closer for us to see.
It's tempting to go off and explore... but it's time to look for a spot to have lunch.
What forces have shaped this landscape?
Across the river we spotted a door in the rocks. ??!!
Look! A castle on top of the mountain! ;-) We passed by here quickly the first time but came back later to have our picnic.
On the bridge crossing the Rio Traful.
Looking back along the river valley.
The rock formations are sometimes easier to see from a bit further away.
Looking back across the bridge where we'd come back to later for lunch.
Cows crossing the river.
