Before leaving Bariloche we figured we'd do a geocache up on Cerro Otto. Once again we drove up a narrow mountain road, only to find that ground zero was quite a ways off the road. Rubby ran up the side of the mountain to take a look. And once again he came back empty handed. At this point it is our firm belief that many of these Argentine geocaches actually don't have a cache,
they have been published solely for the purpose of aggravating foreign tourists. The only good part was that we ended up with a spectacular view over Bariloche and Lago Nahuel Huapi.
As we headed out from Bariloche we were all a little sad to leave our wonderful hotel. Fortunately we had a little surprise on the road when all of a sudden we saw a great classic car in front of us which the kids quickly dubbed "Chitty chitty bang bang" (because of its similarity to the car in the movie). As we saw more and more classic cars all with numbers on the side of them we figured they must be in some sort of cross-country race/tour or something. Anyway, we had great fun following behind chitty chitty bang bang and singing the song to go with it.
The Dulce Sofia. We had the apartment right at the front.
The car park at the hotel.
A rainbow! Unfortunately it brought no luck in the hunt for the geocache!
View over Bariloche and Lago Nahuel Huapi.
View across Lago Nahuel Huapi to the snow covered mountains of the Andes.
Up on the mountain.
The road was not good enough to go all the way to the peak of Cerro Otto but there's also a lift that takes people up.
Coming down the road back to the town of Bariloche.
The church in Bariloche.
An old car is not an uncommon sight in Argentina but one in good shape, that's rare here!
Who's that passing us? Is that Chitty Chitty Bang Bang?!
Bang, bang, chitty-chitty bang-bang, our fine four fendered friend!
More classic cars... is it a race?!
Slowdowns through the police control station.
Looking back at Bariloche from the other side of Lago Nahuel Huapi.
Another view of Bariloche with the backdrop of the snow covered Andes.
The weather is not looking promising for our drive.
Amazing rock formations... volcanic basalt columns.
Beautiful yellow flowered bushes line the road to Villa la Angostura.
Another snowman! This one is welcoming us to Villa la Angostura.
