By 11:30am we had reached the far end of Lago Nonthué where there was a dock and a big restaurant with smoking coming from the chimney which we took as a sign that there might be food cooking. We didn't have much food along to begin with and had eaten quite a bit of it already at the Yuca beach. It was also a bit of a chilly day and the thought of a nice warm fire was quite enticing so we decided to check if the restaurant was open for lunch.
We were greeted in the parking lot by a pair of very upset geese who seemed intent on not letting us get out of the car. We finally managed to scoot by them and went to check out the dock and get a view of the lake.
It seemed like we were the only people at the restaurant but they did say they were open and we were led in to a pleasant dining area and seated next to the large window facing the lake. Our lunch choice was easy - Rubby had a craving for pizza (without olives please!), both items which we figured we could share easily with the kids. The deer was amazing! The pizza came... with olives! We laughed as we wondered if anyone in Argentina would ever understand our dislike of olives. As we ate our meal the dining room soon filled up. I guess we were just early!
Once we were nice and stuffed and warmed up we headed back out. We paused shortly to laugh as we saw that the 2 geese had found new victims... they were hastling a family trying to have a relaxing picnic by the beach.
A very upset and mean goose lying in wait for us at the parking lot.
These geese would chase and nip at whoever came by. Not the best welcoming tactic for a restaurant in my opinion!
Cauquen real....
A boat launch by the restaurant. In the distance there was a fly fisherman in the lake.
Patagonia is a mecca for fly fishing.
The restaurant where we had lunch.
Looking back at the restaurant from the end of the dock.
We liked the little flower boat made from an old boat.
Today's menu... number one item for about 10 CAD (40 pesos) was ciervo a la cazadora, aka venison.
Some bread to start with.
We ordered pizza without olives... Rubby laughing at our obvious inability to communicate the wish to NOT have olives.
Our bill. About 25 CnD in total... not bad to feed a family of 4 a hot meal!
