Between shows and snacks we had lots of time to explore the grounds of the estancia. There were lots of animals for the kids to see: regular farm animals like sheep, pigs, hens, and cows; and some more exotic animals like toucans, rheas, flamingos and coatis. Many of the buildings showed the traditional life on an estancia... the bakery, the cook house, and the stables. The estancia was wonderfully kept and the gardens were absolutely beautiful.
One of the highlights for the kids of course was the playground and their favourit part of that was a little train on a short track. They could have ridden on that all day, but unfortunately for Rubby, the little train only rode on "poppa power" and it was a really hot day!
Sam taking a little break in the shade.
The kids liked this little train ride at the playground.
Samantha tries the monkey bars.
There was a big play structure but it was a little dilapitated in some areas.
Christopher needs someone to go on the see-saw with him.
An old kitchen with lots of artifacts on display.
Cups and kettles for drinking the traditional drink of mate. There was also an info poster on mate preparation.
And of course a more modern mate machine!
The kids are ready to eat again but lunch is over!
Hello! It's Sr. Toucan from Diego!
Sam and Christopher with Sr. Toucan and his friends.
A landscaping cart.
The eating area in the garden and some gift shops in the background.
A peacock.
The male and female peacocks.
This animal looked pretty cute at first but it could get pretty vicious. No wonder it was in a cage by itself!
We figured out what this animal was when the kids were watching Diego back at Christine's place... it was a coati!
Playing bocci while we wait for the gaucho skills show.
The bocci game ended quickly due to "fowl" play. ;-)
A little boar.
Outdoor showers for the pool.
Seriously... can't we just jump in?!
Bench!
Beautiful flowers and trees.
Sam really liked the huge flowers on the one tree
Rubby helps Sam to get a closer look (and sniff!).
Quarters for the hired hands.
La panaderia (the bakery).
They had lots of locks and keys at the bakery. ??!!
Sam and Christopher enjoyed the prickly cactus.
A typical wind turbine of an Argentine estancia.
Flamingos.
their eyes make them look evil!
Pig and rooster.
