with both our kids at their grandparents place for the day, and the weather looking good, we decided to head to gatineau park to do some geocaches that aren't necessarily kids friendly. Amongst our finds was the first cache placed in quebec.
our first find of the day... a cached that had been archived a month ago!
a small water crossing.
a virginia juniper (we read that in the log book)
gotta take my turn to pose for the camera
we pass by a den on the way back
it's a good size... wonder what lives in there?
columbines
columbines
how do they know? are they following us?
signing a cache, and then putting it back in it's hiding spot
the next cache is at then end of the lake... time to bushwhack!
looks like a pileated woodpecker has been around here.
found it!
when you gotta go... you gotta go!
nice work!
we noticed that there was still snow on the ski hills, so we decided to go check it out.
another couple had the same idea... but I'm sure why the man is only in his boxers? :O
hurry up... my butt is cold.
chairlifts are not running... gotta go up on foot.
I reach the top, check the GPS... and find out the geocache is still about 300m away.
time to go bushwhacking (again)
I had a bit of a challenging water hazard to cross
but I managed to do so without getting my feet wet! :)
there's the cache!
it was placed along the skyline trail (my approach was not the way it should have been done)
a bench at the nearby lookout
Skyline trail:
"built immediately after the creation of gatineau park in 1938, this trail was developed as a depression era relief project, with a charming parthway, rock retaining walls and benches. these facilities provide a magnificient view of ottawa-hull and the ottawa valley area."
the view
time to run back down, and head home.
