the kids picking up tree bits?
it may not be pretty, but at least they are recycling.
a cute map of where all the activities are taking place.
the different designs to choose from
sam decided on a butterfly.
sam had to sit still
christopher decided on getting a tattoo instead.
sam all painted and ready to go!
sam wants a tattoo also
nice!
everyon is now ready to go explore!
there is a passport activity, where kids need to go around and get them stamped at the various stations.
sam likes these kinds of activities.
our cute soldiers
christopher getting his passport stamped.
the stew is just getting started, we will have to come later on to taste it.
one of the many activities
christopher is proud of his new "hat"
really? this is what soldiers wore!? Not very intimidating!
anyone bring a match?
ready, aimed at the u.s.a. and...
fire!
time to celebrate with free cupcakes!
they even have little maple leaf sprinkles on them.
tasty!
sam and christopher go get some more!
yummy!
with full bellies, be head back to the activities
playing dressup!
a small fort for the kids to play with.
looking down, we notice a crowd gathering around food! time to go!
still not time for the stew... but a snack
panfried bread
passing out samples
not bad.
we keep exploring the fort.
sammy is on the fence
shall we clean the cannon?
let me take a look
christopher wants to make the cannon go boom!
how about a game of capture the flag?
a nice view of the block house
next we head underground!
deeper and deeper!
we find some soldiers shooting!
they give us a demonstration.
and back out!
one of the rooms in the block house
attack!
a supply room
checking out the pee troth.
ummm... maybe not the best place to stick your heads!
the stew is ready... and I volunteer to help out
I play server
but I get rewarded with a big bowl of stew with lots of meat chunks!
yummy!
the kids like it too!
we need to get the recipe!
next up... a rapid fire competition
the soldiers explain how they each have different type of rifles and they will see which one of them can shoot off three rounds the quickest.
a bit of friendly teasing going on between them.
one of the ladies in the crowd with her period footware.
a heckling soldier.
asking if anyone wants to bet on the outcome
we are ready for them to start!
it was not a fast paced competition.
but a friendly one.
the kids with the soldiers.
toy riffles.
the kids want to have a photo with them.
(at least they didn't want to run around and shoot people)
next up, an obstacle course race.
next stage, rolling a hoop
the a potato sack section
go sam, go!
the day's activities are all done, and you can now find people and soldiers all over the place.
we go through the visitor centre on our way out.
happy canada day!
the kids are sufficiently tired and ready to head back home!
