August 7 to 29, 2010
When we finally made it back to the Filzalmsee after our hike around the Giant's Path it was lunch time. We ate our Semmeln, Wurst and Landjaeger while sitting on a bench watching the trout in the lake.
The rest of the afternoon was play time for the kids. Water games, a foot massager, a giant that came out of the lake, a giant sandbox... and a new play area with sand and a huge structure with buckets, pulleys, chutes for the kids to play "construction". They also had fun on the barefoot path which ended in a giant "moor bath", aka. mucky mud puddle complete with washing station at the end.
Finally we made it back to the Filzalmsee to have our picnic lunch and for the kids to play.
A bench between two glacial erratics.
Trout in the lake.
Christopher next to one of the rocks that was deposited here all the way
from the Hohe Tauern mountains by the glaciers a long time ago.
As softer parts of the rock get worn away, nature creates a sculpture from a giant stone.
Samantha getting a leg massage.
Samantha tries to help Rubby bring the giant out of the lake.
Christopher is scared of the giant.
Samantha at Filzalmsee.
Time to head to the playground.
Samantha gets to work on the conveyor belt.
Hoist up the bucket!
Fill up the bucket, position the wooden tracks, and slide the bucket through.
Christopher hasn't quite figured out that you're supposed to balance ON TOP of the logs yet...
but he'll get it by the end of our trip!
Lots of buckets to lower and raise and spin around.
The language barrier means nothing to the kids as they work together to move the sand around.
Christopher fills the bucket, and Sam hoists it up.
Peekaboo!
Barefoot walking became popular here years ago to promote healthy strong feet and to avoid flat footedness which among other problems can lead to headaches. Christopher is eager to try the barefoot path.
Lots of different textures to experience.
Jump!
The signs also point out that larger rocks retain less heat than the smaller rocks that overall have more surface area.
The wood chip part of the path.
Forget the path, back to the leg massager!
A bug along the path.
The peat pit... apparently mucking about in this stuff has lots of health benefits... mostly it's just fun though!
About halfway through is when we ask the kids how they like walking through cow poo. *evil grin*
She's been slimed!
Waiting for the hose to get cleaned up.
Luckily there's a hose to get cleaned up... this is just like at the mud flats at Fundy!
Christopher's turn.
Happy like a pig in... ;-)
Mom, check out our dirty feet!
Time to get hosed off again.
This is not just a favourite for the tourists, but lots of locals come here with their kids too.
Christopher found some trucks to play with.
Panoramic of the play area at Filzalmsee.
Time to put our shoes on and head back home.
