August 7 to 29, 2010
After the wand painting it was time to head back. We had decided to walk back to the lift in Brixen and as we passed by the Jochstubn restaurant we had a very early supper of Tiroler Groestl and trout straight from their alpine lake. Then we headed off again and 3km down the mountain we realized we'd left the kids' wands at the restaurant so Rubby ran back up the mountain to get them while the rest of us continued on.
Back down in Brixen we got our silver and gold hiking pins at the tourism office and then we headed back to Westendorf. We just had a light supper of Semmeln and yoghurt and after supper Oma surprised us with a visit. Oma was so impressed with what a great hiker Samantha has been on this trip that she bought Sammy a new Austrian dress and brought it over for Sam to try on. Samantha was quite excited with her new "dirndl".
The kids fell asleep quickly and we watched a reality show on RTL 2 about overweight German teens who were going to spend 3 weeks with a tribe in Africa as a last chance weight loss program. Gotta love German reality shows!
As we leave Ellmi's Magic World we get a last glimpse of the Kaiser mountains.
Samantha checks out the new water reservoir that they built for collecting water to make snow in the winter.
Last time we were here they had just started construction.
At the Jochstubn we find a new little picnic island in the middle of the fish pond.
We decided to stop at the Jochstubn for a little afternoon "snack".
What's cookin'?
Opa prefers his snack in liquid format.
Yummy trout fresh from the pond.
Rubby has Tiroler Groestl with a side salad.
Christopher watches mommy in amazement as she polishes off the trout. ;-)
A little picnic table set up just for the kids.
Christopher like the old style tractor that drove by.
One last glance back at the Jochstubn before we head across the mountain back to the Brixen valley.
Opa starts taking short cuts across the field as the weather in the distance looks a little foreboding.
Samantha very excited to have her wand back... we'd been walking about 15 minutes down the mountain when the kids realized they'd left their wands back at the restaurant so Rubby had to run back up the mountain for them.
(The kids are lucky to have such an obliging poppa!)
Everyone seems happy we made it back to the lift and avoided the rain.
Rubby has a chance to "discover" a German geocacher (their trackable number was posted in their car!)
As we walked through Brixen we came across a couple of the floats from the flower parade.
Samantha and Christopher posing with one of the flower parade floats.
Back at the hotel Uri has come by with a new Austrian "dirndl" dress for Samantha. (Can you tell she's excited?!)
Samantha has a dessert of yogurt and smarties.
