kundler klamm

kundl

We decided to start our walk starting on the Kundl side as it seemed easier in terms of timing with buses and trains. We took the bus from Westendorf to Woergl and then hopped on a train for a short ride to Kundl. From the train station we headed into town and soon enough we came upon the signs indicating the way to the gorge. At the entrance to the gorge we stopped briefly at the stone grinding shop where award winning samples were on display. Apparently the shop will also polish and grind rocks that tourists bring for souveniers. We didn't bother with that but we did have quite the collection of rocks by the end of our hike... hmmm, maybe some lapidary equipment is in order when we get home! ;-)

A dreary start to the day... Rubby still insisted it would be fine to go to Kundler Klamm (and he was right!).

A family crest on one of the local buildings.

Arrival at the bus stop in Woergl.

The kids wait happily while we buy train tickets to Kundl.

Happy Sam waiting for our train.

A timber train at the Woergl train station.

The very rare and exotic "gummi" worm. ;-)

Here comes the train!

It's not far to Kundl so we don't even bother getting seats.

Arrival at Kundl just after 10:30am.

We were amused by the robotic lawnmower in one of the yards.

A lovely house with a fruit tree "hugging" it!

A balcony of gnomes.

Corn cobs in addition to the more usual flowers adorn this typical Austrian home.

Sam liked the fountain in the town square.

The Kundl church.

Mmmmm, plums!

This way to the Kundler Gorge!

Oh dear... looks dangerous!

Christopher outside the rock polishing shop just before the gorge.

You can bring your own samples here to be polished for souvenirs! (for a price of course!)

A giant piece of polished conglomerate rock in front of the rock polishing shop.

Some nicely carved/polished rock drinking fountains (who says you can't squeeze water from a stone?!)

Some prize winning polished rock specimens on display.

More samples of polished rocks.

Various items made of polished rocks on display:
lamps, fountains, candlesticks, paperweights, vases, necklaces, clocks, bottle and letter openers, etc.

The kids wait outside on the rocks.
