Haleakela - Halemauu Trail
After a long and exhausting day of hiking the day before, I was worried that we wouldn't be able to get Christopher to budge this morning but after a good night's sleep he was ready and raring to go. The sun was out and after a quick breakfast we packed up camp and headed along the Halemauu Trail for our climb back out of the crater.
We were joined on the trail by the group who had overnighted in the cabin... a group of older people who lived in Hawaii. They were absolutely amazed at how well our kids hiked and I think Sam was particularly motivated to keep up with them to show just how good a hiker she was.
Once we were back out of the crater it was time to wrap up our stay at Haleakela by finishing up the kids' activities so they could get all their Junior Ranger certificates and badges. We also headed into town to do groceries and prep for our trip along the Hana Highway the next day.
