For Sam's 8th birthday we decided to have a Barbie Party - a fancy party with tea time, dancing and fashion galore. Sam probably had as much fun in the planning and anticipation as at the party itself and she was all smiles all the way.
Sam's invite... I think all my Photoshop skills have been acquired making invites and decorations for the kids' parties!
The Barbie cake... I've always wanted to make one of these and other than figuring out the baking time for the giant bowl cake, it was actually one of the easier cakes to decorate! I used up the last of my candied violets on the bottom of the dress and the frosting was a strawberry cream cheese frosting.
The dining room all decked out in pink, white and red... the 'Barbie' silhouette on the wall is actually the silhouette of Sam.
The chocolate roses (which the girls each got to take one home) were a lucky post Valentine's sale. :)
For the candles I ended up making strawberry candle holders. We decided to go all out fancy with the table setting... Staffordshire bone china tea cups (thanks to Grandma who snagged these at an auction years ago) and a fancy embroidered table cloth from Syria (a gift from Auntie Christine) protected from spills by a clear plastic table cloth.
The loot bags.
The craft table where the girls painted suncatchers.
The makeshift runway and 'stage' with mini disco balls hanging from the ceiling.
The DJs table with strobe lights and a fibre optic lamp borrowed from Oma and Opa.
The invitees were all asked to bring their favourite barbies... this was the area where the barbies could hang out.
I cleaned off the last of the barbie stuff from when me and my sister were little... the Barbie McDonald's, a baby nursery and the horse farm.
(The house and whirlpool had been mine too but Sam had those already prior to the party).
Dress up clothes laid out for the girls to have a fashion show.
After a quick panic attack when I realized that most of Sam's dress up clothes had gotten too small I remembered I had a few extra outfits in the basement.
It's always important to accessorize... :)
Miss Alexis shows us she's got style as well as dance moves after she performed part of her Gangnam Style dance routine for us.

The girls waiting for 'tea' and cake. Note that Rubby is staying far away from the girlie party as he's sitting outside by a fire in the backyard.
It took a few tries to get all around the cake but Sam finally blew out all the candles.
All smiles!
Time to eat cake!
Although most of the kids didn't eat too much of the cake, Sam and Helena quickly gobbled up their slices!
Oksana smiles for the camera.
After cake the girls head off to play Barbies... the horses seemed to be the main attraction.

Oksana and Liliya team up for a walk down the runway.
Alexis is both announcer and runway model.
Christopher and Sam both have another piece of cake for dessert in the evening.
