tablelands at gros morne national park
the peridotite rock comes from the earth's mantle and is a mix of the minerals olivine, pyroxene and various other constituents such as chromite
very little vegetation is able to grow here due to harsh climate and metals in the rocks.


serpentinite - snake like pattern on peridotite when olivines and pyroxines react with water and air
also - the park's newest rock being formed by the calcium in the water
the calcium hydroxide reacting with the carbon dioxide from the air produces calcium carbonate which precipitates on rocks around springs. this cement like rock is called travertine
