Day 8 - July 12: Fundy, Salmon River & Alma Beach: MacLaren Pond

One of the tasks on Samantha's nature passport was to walk around MacLaren Pond and find out how that pond got there. So this is what we learned from the interpretive panels:

Mystery of the Bottomless lake - As the glacier in this area melted, a little chunk was left behind. Streams blanketed the valley bottom with gravel, insulating the ice chunk. As it slowly melted the gravel around it collapsed, leaving this 20 m deep kettle lake.

The reward for completing this task (besides getting one step closer to her Level 1 badge) was to go play at the playground for a while.

It's hard to concentrate on eating when there's such an interesting looking playground nearby!

Sam chases a crow across the field.

Samantha among the daisies.

A flowery tree.

Samantha gets a lesson on kettle lakes and how they are formed.
This lake is 20 Sammies deep.

As promised, after our little walk, it's now time to play at the park.

Samantha has no problems with the zipline, but poppa has to run to keep up with her!

Christopher, will you ever 'tire' of playing in the park?
