July 5 - 25, 2008
We had planned to hike the lower section of the Upper Salmon River to get another geocache, which would have been about 5km one way. But about halfway there, we came to a river crossing with rope and all and it was so beautiful that we decided to stay there and let the kids play while Rubby did the last bit of trail on his own. Samantha especially like the Upper "Sammy" River... climbing over rocks and playing in the pools of water. She had a blast!
The Salmon river is still recovering from the old logging days when millions of logs were transported down the river to the sawmill in Alma. The Cache here was called Salmon Saga: Inner Bay of Fundy Atlantic salmon populations have declined from 40,000 since 1989 to fewer than 500 living in the wild today and are at serious risk of extinction. In the summer and autumn, salmon used to rest in the Black Hole pool before moving upstream to spawn.

Samantha has a snack while watching poppa... don't fall poppa!
Rubby makes his way back to shore and we decide to send him off for the geocache on his own.
Along the trail, Rubby found this shack.
The Salmon Saga geocache.
An easy hide.
During his sprint back, Rubby takes the time to snap a quick photo of the river.
Samantha finds a rock where she can dip her feet in.
It's fun playing in the 'sammy' river!
Christopher is happy to be out of the carrier and decides to try his hand at rock climbing.

Butterflies obviously have no sense of smell since they kept landing on Sammy's sneakers.
A waterbug and its shadow.
Splish! Splash!
What happened to keeping the T-shirt dry?!
