July 5 - 25, 2008
Before heading out to our next earthcache, we stopped for a picnic lunch. We found a great little park with picnic tables and a playground that both the kids really enjoyed.
The next earthcache was a little out of the way from our other earthcaches on the agenda today but hey, we couldn't pass up an artesian well! Samantha was already adament that we needed to refill our waterbottles as we had run out of spring water from the last well. No more campground water for this girl! ;-)
As for the requirements to log this cache... it was time to do a little math to see how much gas a 2006 Chevrolet Optra Wagon takes to travel 6000 km which was the total distance of our trip from Ottawa and back. That's a long way to come for spring water!
At 6 seconds to fill a 4L jug we calculated the flow rate of this artesian well to be 40 L per minute. Our trip was about 6000 km. The optra wagon has an approximate combined (highway and city) fuel efficiency of 8.9 L/100km. Therefore about 534 L of gas were consumed on this trip. And so it would take 13.35 minutes to refill our fuel tank enough times with that amount of water from this well! (We're wishing the gas prices had dropped at the beginning of our trip instead of at the end!)
Sam and Christopher are ready for lunch.
After lunch, Samantha was eager to go play.
Lots of stuff to ride on!
Both of the kids could enjoy this park.
Let's go ride a dinosaur.
Samantha is happy to be able to refill her water bottle with spring water.
Rubby measures the flow rate as part of the earthcache logging requirements.
Butterfly.
This artesian well also had an old well pump next to it... looks like it could use some fixing!
