Canoeing & Fishing

Canoeing

we arrive an no one else is here yet.

sam was excited to find a bird's nest.

and even more excited to discover that they put in a new play structure since last time we were here

the kids get to play while we wait for opa to arrive.

the kids enjoyed the new park... however sam was sad that the tire swing is now gone.

opa arrives.

opa wonders what is taking everyone so long

and then is happy to know it's because we had to get the food.

the food is all aboard... oh yeah, I guess we should take the kids too!

"firework" flowers

the view upstream

the view downstream

and off we go!

christopher is enjoying the ride.

lots of flower on the shoreline

and blue skies!

canoe rides are a good place to reflect on life.

another interesting bush

"can i have a snack?"

oh no! where did poppa go?

he stepped out to grab a geocache,

back in the canoe... and off we go again.

opa pretending to paddle hard! ;)

a raccoon in a tree

one of the few structures we saw while paddling.

a farm... but what's that in the water?

is is a croccodile?

nope... just a log.

time for a fish snack.

what's all the buzz over there?

bee houses.... do we have time to stop for honey?

no... but we do have time to stop for the next geocache.

sam checks out the grass on the shore line

christopher is pretending to fish.

"the old bambo, the old bamboo..."

honk! honk!... lots of traffic! ;)

a great blue heron

this looked like a big field of marijuana

lot of morning glory flowers.

the current is getting stronger, so the kids duck down to make the canoe more aerodynamic.

this is where the south branch of the south nation river merges...
you can see the colour differences in the two waters

lunch time!.. (at 9:30am)

at least they are willing to share!

the crew being patient while poppa goes to find another geocache.

lollipops for dessert... last long and keeps the kids quiet! ;)

time for a siesta

water lily

christopher says that the geocahe is this way (at least that is the way that the arrow plant is pointing)

sam starts to decorate the canoe while waiting for poppa

poppa returns after finding another geocache.

christopher collected lots of stuff while he was away.

and so did sam

they've done a wonderful job decorating the canoe

the kids enjoyed themselves.

there's the bridge... the end/start is in sight.

here is what our canoe tracks look like in google earth.
