August 7 to 29, 2010
To get to the Brixen lift is about 3km from the hotel, mostly along a single lane country road. In order to save some time Rubby took Christopher on his shoulders part of the way. We saw 2 trains along the way, much to the kids' delight.
As we headed up the lift it started to drizzle a little and as we started to walk up the mountain, the clouds drifted in. Samantha who had been talking constantly about wanting to touch a cloud, seemed a little disappointed that a cloud just feels like fog and drizzle. *grin* We hiked up to Brantlalm where we got a stamp for our hiking book and then continued along up along the path til we got to a little bench where we had a snack break. From there we decided to take the less cloudy way around the Jochstuben peak. For the latter part of the hike to Kaiserwelt, Rubby carried Christopher on his shoulders so that the kids would have enough time to play and discover once we got there.
We were slowed down when we found a helicopter that was transporting cement from a cement truck to the various lift posts that were being constructed. Christopher was in absolute heaven watching the helicopter, especially when it landed just meters away for what we guessed was a refuelling at a truck.
Taking the lift up in Brixen.
Nowadays the farmers all want the roads to go directly past them so here the road is being rebuilt.
A cloudy day as we look across the Brixen valley towards Kitzbuehl.
Samantha runs quickly to ride on the horse.
Information for the ski lessons.
A band of clouds surrounding the mountain.
The kids take Opa for a walk to collect hiking stamps.
Looks like this is the first stop for a stamp - Brantalm.
A beautiful house with gorgeous flowers... our kids just noticed the slide at the back. ;-)
Sam figures if she gets there fast she'll have more time to slide.
Opa stamps...
...the kids slide.
A little shrine.
Opa and Sammy are at the front... thankfully there are lots of benches where they can stop and wait for us.
Snack time!
Wild strawberries... The best snacks are those that are collected on the way.
Since we want to make sure we actually get to have lots of playtime at Kaiserwelt,
Rubby gives Christopher a ride to speed things up.
All of a sudden we came across this helicopter!
Rubby and Christopher got up close to check it out... it was really windy!
Lots of lift post pieces.
The helicopter was flying lift pieces as well as buckets of cement to where the new lift was being put in.
The helicopter was definitely the highlight of Christopher's day!
Although I think the noise and wind were a bit overwhelming.
There goes another bucket of cement.
And here's the cement mixer loading up the next bucket.
A helicopter AND a cement mixer?! How could it get any better?!
The new lift station next to the restaurant and Kaiserwelt.
The Tirol chopper.
