August 7 to 29, 2010
Once the decision to head to Brechhorn was made, Rubby quickly popped to the store to buy some Landjaeger for our hike while we headed off to the lift station. Once we'd passed through the clouds the view was stunning... like a great big sea of white fluffy clouds with litte islands "peaking" out. The sun was shining and at the top the sky was all blue.
At the restaurant at the top we first had to get the kids past the playground where the trampoline and diggers were calling Christopher and a giant bouncy castle boat had caught Sam's attention. With promises of coming back to play after our hike (and fingers crossed that time would allow it) we managed to get the kids past the playground and off we went. The ground was pretty wet so Rubby decided to take Christopher on his shoulders which was also good for time.
We took the path between Fleiding and Gampdenkogel towards Brechhornhaus, stopping along the way to fill our water bottles at the Harlasangerbrundl, our favourite little mountain spring. The only hitch was a cow that had stubbornly refused to move out of the way in one of the cow gates but some locals chased her away with their hiking poles.
On his way to get our morning Semmeln, Rubby found a basket of them already delivered... alas, not for us!
Although it looks cloudy, we can spy blue sky through the fog... hopefully it will dissipate throughout the day.
The kids having their fancy breakfast... Semmeln with peanut butter and banana topped with fresh alpine blueberries.
10 degrees Celcius at the start of the day.
As the gondola takes us higher, we pierce through the clouds and get an amazing view.
Panoramic of the cloud filled valley from the lift station.
Opa snapping some pics of the snow covered peaks in the distance.
There is a heaven...
Samantha and Opa heading towards Fleiding.
An amazing day to be up on the mountain for a hike.
This picture shows the steepness of the hike up Fleiding which we did a couple of days ago...
today we're going around this peak, not up it.
The distant high peaks poking out of a sea of clouds.
Hiking along.
We turn left to go around Fleiding.
The Kaisergebirge looks amazingly close with the valleys all covered in a blanket of clouds.

Christopher and poppa waiting for the rest of the crew.
Stunning!
Lots of people on the way...
they were headed up to Gampdenkogel where there was going to be the blessing of the new cross.
Christopher and poppa made a new friend.
The cow was foiled by the gate.
The hike was taking longer than usual since we kept stopping to take pictures.
Dew on the mountain heather.
Our first good view of Brechhorn.
We make our way to Brechhornhaus, stopping to snap photos and eat blueberries along the way.
Another hiker passing by with a traditional rucksack, wool felt jacket and hat, and hiking stick.
We're almost at Brechhornhaus!
Sam stopping at her favourite fountain to take a drink.
Opa, the view is behind you!
Samantha and Christopher.
It's a long hike today so Christopher gets lots of lifts.
We made it to Brechhornhaus (elevation 1700m)
