August 7 to 29, 2010
After lunch we started off towards Floch. Opa, not wanting to overdo it today, headed back down the other way to wait for us at Brechhornhaus. And so off we went across the ridge connecting Floch and Brechhorn. It was along this path that I decided I probably should not attempt some of the peaks that say you have to be sure-footed and not prone to dizziness. Hiking up a steep mountain is one thing, seeing the drop-offs on both sides of the path is worse!
It took us a little longer than the signposted estimate to get across to Floch, mainly because Rubby decided in parts to carry Christopher in his arms rather than up on his shoulders and I made sure to go slowly and hold Samantha's hand. Samantha also took a little break to make friends with a sheep along the way. She spent the rest of the day trying to figure out how to get the one sheep to come for a playdate without having all the other sheep follow him! :)
When we got to Floch we had a snack and Rubby took some time to use a pen to "colour" the stamp since the ink pad was missing at the cross.
Following the Austrian trail markers.
The annoying part about ridge trails is that you can't help noticing it's a long way down on BOTH sides!
It's a little more comfortable hiking further down where you can lean into the mountain.
Looking back towards the Brechhorn cross.
A caterpillar.
Alpine moors.
The happy wanderers.
Some of the rocks along the way are beautiful.
Rubby and Christopher come across a flock of sheep grazing on the mountainside.
These sheep look like they were playing paintball and lost!
Brechhorn is now far behind us and you can see the ridge that we came down on.
We're happy we had made it to Brechhorn early... there appears to be quite the crowd there now!
Samantha took a huge liking to the sheep and called this one Georgia
(she had just been telling me how she missed her friend Georgia from back home when we found the sheep).
A kiss for Georgia.
Christopher and Rubby just hanging out.
If there's a rock, Samantha must climb it!
Christopher taking a break (riding around on poppa's shoulders is hard work!)
Peekaboo!
Rubby and Christopher waiting for Samantha to catch up.
No Rubby, we're not tackling that one today anymore! ;-)

We're almost at the Floch cross!

Rubby and Christopher at the Floch cross... ooops! The clouds are pulling in!
Floch (elevation 2057m)
The steepness down the side of the mountain.
A less cloudy view of Rubby at the Floch cross.
Samantha and Rubby getting the stamp for our hiking book.
There was no ink pad so Rubby had to manually ink the stamp with his pen.
Christopher likes crosses... getting to one means it's time to snack again!
A gorgeous day!
Where the little bit of soil and grass has eroded away, cool rock formations can be seen underneath.
Samantha took this picture at the Floch cross.
