brechhorn, floch & bergleuchten

back to westendorf

After a couple of final pictures at Floch we headed off again, taking an alternate route around Brechhorn rather than going back over it. The hike took us down along a beautiful mountain stream where Samantha enjoyed cooling her hands and forehead. We found the ruins of some old stone huts and then the hike took us through a forest where we found some "Schwammerl" (chanterelles). Eventually we came to an alm and a dirt road that took us back over to Fleiding.

Rubby took off to backtrack to Brechhornhaus to pick up Opa who had met up with Klaus and a bunch of other people who had all been up to Gampdenkogel for the ceremonial "Einweihung" of the new cross. Opa and Rubby met up with us again at the spring where we filled up our water bottles.

From the spring we decided to take the route past Fleidingalm to get another stamp and then head back to the lift for some popsicles and play time on the bouncy boat and trampoline before heading back down.

Back in Westendorf we made a grocery stop at the Spar and Billa. For supper we had hamburger helper.

Time to head back to Westendorf.

Christopher hanging out while he and Rubby wait for us.

Samantha's feet are starting to get tired and the rocky wet path makes for slow going.

A little frog we met along the way.

Cool rocks.

Rubby and Christopher waiting for us at the bottom of the slope.

Rubby and his little hikers.

Samantha rubbing some water on her forehead to cool herself off.

We found the ruins of some old buildings.

Rubby and the kids in the "house".

Samantha sitting on the wall.

rubby checking out the rock fall and some of the other ruins.

Rubby and Christopher following the stream down.

The path took us through the woods.

Next thing we knew we'd found gold! (Chanterelles)

We thought this one looked like a king bolete which is one of Opa's favourite mushrooms
but without Opa we couldn't be sure so Samantha posed beside it for a souvenir photo instead.

Fleiding back in sight.

A cute little alm along the way.

Enzian (gentian).

Another caterpillar.

Rubby found Opa!

A well deserved drink back at the Harlasanger fountain.

Samantha helping her brother get a drink.

In memory.

We took the opposite way around Fleiding than in the morning so we could stop by the Fleiding Alm...

... and collect another stamp!

Another type of gentian (Schusternagel).

Fly agarics (Fliegenpilze).

Christopher was so excited to come across this logging truck!

Well deserved popsicles back at the lift station.

Samantha was eager to go play in the bouncy castle... or bouncy ark?!

Christopher on the other hand enjoyed bouncing on the trampoline instead.

Back in town we spotted some of the movelos... electric bicycles you can rent to get around from town to town.

Forget the beer tent, this is a schnapps tent! (The lady is thinking that it looks like the kids were already inside!)

I guess this is where you go if you had too much to drink at the schnapps tent.

After that much hiking, even hamburger helper can taste good for dinner!
