August 7 to 29, 2010
A lot of people have trouble getting going in the morning on their vacations, especially if they have kids. But our whole family knows that leaving early in the morning to start our adventures has its advantages... especially when heading to the alpine playgrounds that can often be overrun by tourists. Since we were the first ones up the mountain and the weather was still a bit sketchy, we got several hours of having the playground virtually to ourselves! The kids had an amazing time on their old favourites such as the trampolines, the zipline, the barrel slide and the car. They also enjoyed discovering a newly constructed area of the playground.
Uri's orchids that even the tourists stop for.
Christopher and Samantha sitting among the tomato plants.
The kids say hello to Ellmi at the lift station.
We're the first ones at the funicular.
Samantha checks out the funicular track.
The kids sit nicely as we wait while Rubby is being a little monkey.
We pass the second funicular without any crashes. whew!
The view over to the Kitzbueheler Horn.
Samantha and Ellmi.
Samantha races to the play structure which she has all to herself at this time of day.
Christopher's favourite spot is driving the car.
The kids enjoy not having to share any of the playground!
The only other "kids" around are these goats! ;-)
We're eager to check out this new area of Ellmi's playground.
But first the kids want to hit all their traditional favourites, including a zipline and the barrel slide.
Christopher demonstrates on the trampoline.
Then it's mom's turn to try!
An Austrian "totem pole" complete with rooster at the top.
Christopher is now a pro at the water damming process.
Christopher meets one of Ellmi's friends.
Part of the new water playground area is a water based scale.
The scale reads about 70L of water... now how do we get down?!
Is this where the three Bears live?
An example of traditional Austrian fencing.
Opa in the alpine garden.
It's almost 10 am and we still have the place to ourselves!
