August 7 to 29, 2010
After we'd finished the earthcache it was still fairly early so we decided to walk into Kitzbuehel to have a look around and grab some pizza for lunch.
Looks like markers for a race of some sort...
... probably for the Kitzbuehel Triathlon!
Construction workers hanging out.
A little deer along the forest edge as we come into Kitzbuehel.
Interesting architecture along the road.
This is more of a (fancy) Austrian style!
We pass over the main road and the kids enjoyed seeing the tunnel we so often drive through.
McDonald's... Kitzbuehel style.
One of many fancy hotels in Kitzbuehel.
A cabinetry place.
Lots of ornate woodwork.
The kids had fun spotting the goats throughout Kitzbuehel.
Lots of backyards have cute eating areas and little backyard cottages.
A chestnut tree.
I think the kids are trying to give us a hint!
Home of the Kitzbuehel Ski club?
Little kids posing with the little kids! ;-)
Apparently Hansi Hinterseer is coming to town
(a famous Austrian downhiller turned singer who attracts quite the following!)
"main street"
Christopher was quite excited to see the Christophorus helicopter fly overhead (the Austrian equivalent of the medivac).
Downtown Kitzbuehel.
An old post box.
The horse carriages await the tourists.
Samantha checking out some of the Austrian fashions.
Could we pass for a little Austrian boy and girl?
Artwork commemmorating the famous "Antlassritt" which is re-enacted every year.
Samantha gets a pair of hiking shoes since she's proven that she's quite the hiker!
Lunch time!
We arrive at the ritzy "Goldener Greif" hotel in time to witness the beer truck unloading!
Some more Austrian Dirndl dresses.
A fresco to indicate the way to the Hahnenkamm gondola.
(Hahnenkamm means "cock's comb" and it's the name of the world famous downhill ski course).
The trashy version of the Austrian Dirndl dresses!
On the bus ride home we see a couple of the floats from the flower parade parked in front of their owners' houses.
