kundler klamm

kundler klamm - part 2

The earthcache itself was more towards the upper end of the gorge. After we got to the spot we found a nice little bench and fountain where we could have a little rest and some lunch. Christopher in particular was pretty tired but some food and a nice cold drink seemed to revive him nicely for the rest of our hike.

Some more information from the earthcache website:

The „Kundler Klamm“, which declines from „Mühltal“ to „Kundl“, is very impressive with its roaring mass of water and steep cliffs reaching up to 200m (650ft.) on both sides . The rocks gleam in red, brown and grey tones due to the various rock types that meet here, such as „Wildschöner“ slate, red sandstone, alpine shell limestone an the well known „Ramsau“-dolomite. Very often varved clay can be found, sometimes containing dropstones.
The ore richness in the valley caused brisk mining in the area, actually there was once a gold washing facility in the „Kundler“ Ravine.

So maybe with some luck, ...

Alas, we didn't find any gold though!

A little tunnel along the path.

Sammy took a picture of the rest of us at the tunnel.

Sam and Rubby have fun taking pictures of each other at the same time.

Looking back at the tunnel and ravine.

A cricket of some sort.

Butterfly.

Spider in its net.

Samantha still has lots of energy but Christopher gets a little ride as his energy starts to dip.

The ride is halted temporarily as Rubby has to search for a geocache.

Once the cache is found, Christopher is back up on Rubby's shoulders.

Those are quite the reinforcements!

Coming up to another little overhang.

A bridge, a bench and a view through the rocks.

Samantha and Christopher on the bridge.

Pretty pink flowers.

This flower seems to be quite the buffet for the insects!

Having a fun day.

Samantha checks out the softer and lighter coloured rocks at one of the rock slides.

Is this where we have to estimate the height of the cliffs for our earthcache requirement?

Samantha on the other side of the bridge at the earthcache.

A waterfall along the way.

Rubby provides some additional reinforcement to the rocks.

The stream has narrowed somewhat.

I guess Christopher was really tired!

There's another geocache at the bridge up ahead. The bridge was built in may 1979 by the Kundl tourism board.

Samantha likes the little water fountain.

With water from the fountain and this little bench next to it, it looks like it's time for...

... lunch!

While we were eating another group came by to do the geocache...
Rubby helped them out a bit so they were quite happy!

Rubby helps Christopher refill his water bottle before we continue along our hike.
