November 20: Ruta de los Siete Lagos

Today it was time to move on. We were sad to leave the beautiful hotel in Bariloche but hoped the weather would improve as we moved north. We attempted 2 geocaches without success and unfortunately we saw mostly gray instead of the "azure blues" and "emerald greens" of the lakes along Argentina's most famous scenic route - La Ruta de los Siete Lagos. The most exciting part of the trip was crossing paths with a bunch of classic cars that seemed to be doing some sort of tour/race and the kids especially took a liking to one car that resembled Chitty-Chitty-Bang-Bang.

The weather did clear up in San Martín de los Andes and we had a great lunch at the Ku restaurant followed by a little walk through the town and a stop to have alfajores and a submarino at the local Havanna shop.

San Junín de los Andes was a bit of a disappointment... the town looked run down and it was hard for us to understand why all the hotels seemed booked and the accomodations were so much more expensive than in Bariloche. After a frustrating and long search we finally found an apartment to stay for a couple of days and settled in to plan our next couple of days in Parque Nacional Lanín.
