August 7 to 29, 2010
Annemarie was gone with a friend to Hungary for 2 days (her friend was having dental work done there... apparantly a lot of Austrians do that cause it's much cheaper there) and offered us the use of her car while she was gone. So we took the opportunity to go to Steinplatte. Opa came along with us since he'd never seen it before but Oma stayed behind since there wasn't enough room in the car otherwise.
We drove to Waidring where we took the lift up to 1650m where the restaurant and triassic park are located. From there we walked the rest of the way up to the top of Steinplatte, stopping along the way to check out the new viewing platform, all the interpretive displays, and tons of fossilized corals along the way.
The kids were quite happy to share Opa's chocolate with him at the top, and then we headed back down again, stopping to look for fossils along the way. Back at the lift station we had Schnitzel and Berner wuerstl (franfurters with cheese filling and wrapped in bacon) for lunch.
Then Sam completed the answers for their activity books so that before leaving the kids could get their books stamped and pick out a special rock.
