August 7 to 29, 2010
Today was the big day... the reason for this whole trip... to celebrate Opa's retirement Austrian style with a nice roasted pig. And a beer tent of course!
In the morning we decided to take the kids to Kitzbuehl to go do the earthcache at the Schwarzsee, a popular little swimming hole and recreational area. It was a fairly relaxing day and this way Oma could prepare for the evening without the kids in the way and the kids weren't too tired to party into the night. After we'd done the tour of the Schwarzsee we continued on to Kitzbuehel where we just walked around, window shopped, and grabbed some lunch.
Late afternoon we got the kids all dressed up in their Austrian party outfits and headed on over to Uri's Beer Tent. We had wondered whether the tent would be overkill but it did end up raining lightly and it got quite cool in the evening so we were happy to have it. Oma's brother is a butcher and he had roasted the pig ahead of time and brought it to serve with Knoedl and Sauerkraut. The kids had fun too, and were quite pleased to get presents as well. After supper Rubby took them inside so they could play and have their own little party. They did come back out for dessert though! The party was a huge success thanks to a ton of work by Hansi, Annemarie, George, Astrid and Oma.
