Argentina

November 6-29, 2009

Christine (my sister) has been stationed with the military at the embassy in Buenos Aires for 3 years and seeing as how she will be coming home soon, we figured it was time we go visit her. Unfortunately we only had 3 weeks of vacation and Argentina is BIG!!! So there was tons we didn't get to see. Nevertheless, we saw lots and had tons of fun. We had decided to rent a car and ended up driving over 7000 km! Our kids were amazing... they never complained about the car rides and we were especially proud of Samantha who took in all sights with great appreciation.

Auntie Christine was an excellent hostess (other than giving us an emergency phone that actually was not usable... *evil grin*!). One of Samantha's favourite memories is when Auntie 'stine took her to the Barbie store. She also organized our fabulous outing to a gaucho ranch and were treated to a tango night with VIP treatment while she babysat the kids... thanks for the night out Christine!

We were reasonably lucky with the weather on this trip (hey, after 4 weeks of rain in Austria it couldn't get much worse! And after all, one expects a little rain when you travel to a rain forest!). We were also lucky to see lots of animals which the kids fondly remember when they see them again on episodes of Diego. And we had some interesting adventures such as climbing down a cliff to see elephant seals, sitting in the car at a fruit inspection station eating a bag of fruit rather than seeing it go to waste, and running mysterious errands for the gendarmerie who we could barely communicate with but who were really insistant we deliver a couple of bags to another gendarmerie down the road.
