Hato Caves

This attraction was on every tourist list I saw, so I put it on my “if I have time” list… and turned out that I did have time, so I went to check it out.

You have to take a guided tour in order to see the caves and I caught the last tour of the day. It was just me and another couple. We were shown several chambers but there was only one chamber that we were allowed to take photos in, so my photos don’t represent the entire cave system.

I always enjoy exploring caves, but when they are turned into tourist attractions they seem to lose their natural appeal, with all the lights, fans, paved walkways, etc. But I do get that if they left it wild, that some people would probably misuse them.

I also get the no photography, as the light (even unnatural) causes the rocks to turn green, and that asking people to just not use flash never works. But I always wondered, if unnatural light also causes the rocks to turn green (well the stuff on the rocks, not the rocks themselves), then why have the artificial lights that are on all day long for the tourists not affect things?

Anyway, I just pouting because I don’t like being told “No pictures”… lol
