Iceland: Day 1 - Ottawa to Reykjavik

June 24, 2004

The first part of any trip to another country is... getting there. Flew Ottawa to New York and on to Reykjavik. First time in the new Ottawa airport. In New York we had quite a long layover but in the end it was good cause the shuttle bus from LaGuardia to JFK, although commanded by a very funny and sarcastic bus driver, took a little longer to navigate NY traffic than we had originally anticipated. The flight was fairly uneventful but we did wonder about the Icelandair uniforms (aren't those the old Canadian Airlines uniforms?!) and the fact that you had to pay for even pop and juice (this was our first sign of just how expensive Iceland would be!).

Arrived in Iceland at 6am and picked up by Andreas, who owns a travel agency in Germany and happened to be leading a special tour group for one week in Iceland. We were his guests for the first 4 days at the hotel and joined all the activities of the tour group.

A nice aerial view of one of the suburbs of new york city

Touch down in new york... they are so welcoming

Maybe we will meet Donald Trump!?
